We will greet you at International Airport of Ulaan-Baatar and transfer to hotel. After the overview excursion round the city you'll visit the National Museum of the Mongolian history. Overnight in hotel. (L, D)
Day 2 | Khentii Province
We depart early in the morning for Khentii Province, east of Ulaanbaatar. Along the way, we will meet with nomadic herders of sheep, cattle and horses to learn a little about this ancient Mongolian lifestyle. Overnight in a ger camp near Jargalant Valley. (B, L, D)
Day 3 | Bereeven Monastery Ruins
We will spend the day visiting the pristine Khangal Lake and the ruins of Bereeven Monastery, built in 1777 and destroyed during the religious purges of 1937-1940. This is a beautiful area with great opportunities for exploring the ruins, hikes, relaxing by the lake, and searching the nearby Thirteen Sansar Mountains for sacred images painted on the rocks. Overnight in a ger camp. (B, L, D)
Days 4/5 | Dadal County
As we continue to explore the historic landscape of Khentii province, where every hill, mountain, river and rock has a story to tell, we will visit a very special site. Khentii is the birthplace of Chinggis Khan - founder of the greatest land empire the world has ever known - and a monument marks his place of birth. Our guides will tell you about the deep historical associations of this region and the significance of Chinggis in modern Mongolia. Overnight in a ger camp. (B, L, D)
Day 6 | Binder County
Next we travel to Binder county, crossed by two of Mongolia's largest rivers, the Onon and Balj, and home to a large population of Buryat Mongols. The Buryats are closely tied to ethnic Mongols but have maintained their own culture and language. We will visit a nomadic Buryat family to experience their unique lifestyle. Overnight in a ger camp. (B, L, D)
Day 7 | Gun Galuutai Natural Reserve
We start the day with a short two-hour drive to the stunning Gun Galuutai Natural Reserve, nestled in the Khentii Mountains. This is a great place to flyfish on the Kherlen River, with its abundance of rare fish species - including the Taimen salmon, Lenok trout, Silurid catfish and pike. There are also numerous short hikes and several local families that we will visit to learn more about the countryside lifestyle. Overnight in a ger camp. (B, L, D)
Day 8 | Kherlen River / Ulaanbaatar
Before heading back to Ulaanbaatar we will spend the first part of the day exploring the beautiful Kherlen River area on horseback, in the company of local nomads. Back in the capital, we will have some free time for shopping or relaxing. After dinner, we'll attend a performance of an ensemble performance of Mongolian folk art. Overnight in hotel. (B, L, D)
